How often do you folks make it to the range on your own? Where're good ranges in Allegheny County?

when the weather's nice, I usually go once a week. for everyone to shoot, the best place would be the State game lands range in Wexford. it's about a 20 minute ride from Oakland, and until May, we can all shoot for free. after may, everyone will either need a pa hunting license or the new range permit, a $35 fee to help maintain the ranges now.

I've heard that theft can be a problem at the Wexford range, since you're not allowed to travel downrange with firearms, but I'm sure that won't be a problem if we go in a group. Also, do they enforce the 3 round rule? I've been toying with the idea of bump-firing the contents of a 75-round drum, but I might not be able to do that there.
Do you know how long the permit lasts, for those who don't have/don't want to buy a hunting license?

Financial issues in regards to maintenance and the realization that ~50% of the shooters at Wexford aren't hunters had significantly more to do with the new requirement than anyone being annoyed with bump firing. State gameland ranges generally have a rule stating that you can't load more than 3 rounds (6 in a handgun) at a time; I was curious if the Wexford range followed suit. While bump-firing is inaccurate, I'd hardly consider it "irresponsible" beyond a financial view of ammunition spent. Thanks for letting me know about the PMSC.
